Uses of the Progressive Present Perfect

Activities that began in the past and continue in the present and highlight the duration of the process.

Monica and her husband have been living in Barcelona for ten years.

Actions that began in the past and may or may not have ended recently and highlight the duration of the process.

The weather is really bad. It has been raining all night.

Actions of the past that have just concluded and whose status is evident.

Hmm. Nice smelling!! Have you been cooking your birthday cake?
