Uses of the present perfect.

As a general rule, it is used to describe actions that began in the past and have not yet been completed or that have some relation to the present.

With adverb just, actions that have just occurred.

The President has just arrived from the US.

They both have just left for Mazatlan.

With the prepositions for and since.

We have lived in Italy for three years.

I haven't heard from you since 2010!!

With the adverbs yet and already.

They haven't taken the Basic Exam yet.

I have already taken the Intermediate Exam.

With the expressions: It's the first, It's the second, etc.

It's the first time I have flown United

It's the second time she has had lunch today
