Uses of the conditional

Comments about something that is not real in the present but may be possible

I would visit her if I had time.

Comments about a situation that is not real at the moment and could never be real.

If I were you, I would give up smoking. (but I could never be you).

Second Conditional

If I were a plant, I would love the rain.

If you really loved me, you would buy me a Mercedes.

Would your father go to see the match if I gave him a free ticket?
